(unedited) Transcript By Karuchi March 10, 2022.
There was a city flooded by incandescent lighting. It didn’t look any different from any other
city, yet there was something interesting within it’s walls.
Felines of different types, parading all over the streets. As passerby’s watch in awe, the cats of
this city enamor them with their array of colors.
The city prides itself in it’s abundance of engrossing felines. Celebrated in every way possible,
the golden cat in particular. As if it was like the sun had blessed this cat.
As the felines display themselves amongst the crowd, one lonely dark cat hides within the
shadows. Fur as dark as midnight, deemed the outcast amongst her peers. She hides away
from all the ridicule.
“A black cat”, once said by the people who visited this city. Whispers of rumors would spread
around, a saying which went around like wildfire. ”The cat with a touch of midnight, would
curse anyone who dares come near it”.
And so the black cat was ostracized. This particular feline loved singing. She wanted to hum
her songs to the people, but she was avoided by everyone who caught sight of her.
She would try her best to catch the attention of those around her. But with the rumors going
around, she had no chance. Months passed by as she lost hope of being noticed, pondering if
she could be like the other cats.
Sequestered in a dark alley. She would then hum songs of loneliness, thoughts of envy rushing
in her head. “If I was a bit more colorful like them, would it be different”, she would think as she
fell asleep.
Slumbering and humming, as time ticks away. With nothing to do, all she could do is lie
around. And if she would go out into the streets, she would then be avoided.
A lonesome feeling, each passing day as dread filled her even more. Naught and cold, she
would stare into the distance. Yet in that distance, a certain sound could be heard.
It was not like any other sound that she had heard. Curious and with nothing else to do, she
would come near the mysterious sound. Pondering on why something like this, would be
around this dark alley.
In the damp cold corner, there sat a lady. She would sing songs with unknown origins,
something you wouldn’t hear in this city. Mysterious yet it was endearing to one’s ear, as if it
was the voice of a goddess, the black cat thought.
The black cat was anxious as it came closer. The thoughts of her being ostracized all those
years was the only thing in her head. Yet the lady would only smile on the sight of the black
cat.
It was a warm feeling, as the black cat sat beside the lady. The lady gently plays with her soft
fur, she would then slowly harmonize with the lady. Creating a sweet and mellow sound.
It has been so long since she has had any contact with anyone. With this unknown feeling
within her, she would then slowly fall into slumber beside the lady. Slowly dreaming of beautiful
things.
Free from envious thoughts, no more was the questions of what could be. She was simply
happy, dreaming of limitless possibilities. As a harmony would envelop her dreams, she could
feel a change within herself.
As the morning twilight arrives, so did the black cat rise from her slumber. She felt different,
unfamiliar with this strange feeling. As if everything around her had changed.
She stroked her hair and noticed something peculiar. Her paws were no more, as she now had
fingers. She would stand up and observed her surroundings.
A new form, she was no longer a feline. She would run outside the alley, into the bustling
street. Looking into the store window, a reflection of a new silhouette.
The black cat, had become a human. With silky smooth hair that was dark as midnight.
Although she still had some feline features, she had transformed into something different.
She would walk around, familiarizing herself with this new form. Noticed a stage with a mic,
she went in closer. It was an open stage, which the people put their for anyone to use.
As the people around her minded their own business, she would prepare herself. The past
swirled around in her head, she would try to hum for everyone back then. People avoided her,
not even giving her voice a chance.
She remembers the lady from before, singing to her heart’s content. In an alleyway where no
one could see her. The lady simply wanted to sing, and so did the once was black cat.
Holding the mic, she let out a harmony. Slowly the passerby’s would notice, such a sweet
melody. A crowd would then gather around her, enamored with such a beautiful harmony.
For the first time, in so long. She didn’t care about anything else, she did what she wanted to
do. She then sang in front of the crowd, as everyone loudly cheered for her.
Finishing the last few notes of her song, someone in the crowd would ask of her name. Looking
back into the past, she would ponder and finally come up with an answer. She held the mic as
she said with great joy, “My name is Nemuri, Nemuri Note”
